I find it strange that so many knitters have an aversion to purling. After all, it’s almost 50% of knitting isn’t it? I was doing quite a bit of purling on a project a while back, and I found that wrapping the yarn around the thumb of my left hand (I’m a continental knitter) made things go faster. Here’s a video showing you how…

Found your post via twitter. LOVE THIS TIP! Normally I norweigan purl, esp for ribbing, but your technique will be much faster for longer runs of purls. Thanks for sharing this!
This is how I have always purled. Though, I do bring the yarn through my usual tension wrap and then down and under my thumb.

This is how I purl! It is very fast.
What a great tip. I’ve only tried continental knitting briefly and couldn’t get on with purling, but I’ll give this a go!
